Historical Film (1917) DVD

movieThe California Area Historical Society is releasing an old 16 mm film on DVD. The images include street scenes of California Borough, nearby farmlands, business store fronts, and many citizens, including school students. Produced c. 1937 by two local firemen – Harold Gregory and David Mc Fann – the film was donated to the Historical Society in 2009 by Paul Coatsworth.

Edgar Harris, past president of the Society, is coordinating the effort to make the DVD available to the public. “Thanks to the effort of Rick Sebak and WQED-Channel 13, excerpts from the film were used in WQED’s 2009 production Right Beside The River. Every one who saw the show on Channel 13 said it brought back many nostalgic memories of the community and wanted to know more about the California film. We are pleased now to give the public a chance to purchase the original film on DVD.”
